Screw And Barrel Applications And Industry Needs

Screws and barrels are widely used in plastics processing, rubber products, food packaging, building materials, and other fields. In plastic extrusion, different polymers (such as PE, PP, and PVC) have significantly different requirements for screws and barrels: for example, PVC, due to its poor thermal stability, requires a low-shear, high-compression-ratio screw design and is equipped with a vacuum exhaust system to remove volatiles; while high-filler masterbatches (such as calcium carbonate-filled PP) require enhanced barrel wear resistance, necessitating surface-hardened screws and barrels. In rubber extrusion, screws and barrels need to withstand higher torque and temperatures (typically 180-220℃), therefore they are often made of alloy steel and equipped with water-cooling systems. Furthermore, food-grade applications (such as extruded noodles and puffed foods) must meet hygiene standards, requiring the barrel's inner wall to be polished and FDA-approved.
